As we announced last month, we’re thrilled to have finally opened Fuller Forest Preserve, our newest public access preserve. This 220-acre project was years in the making and came to fruition thanks to the generous support of many members within our community. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this project possible, and look forward to celebrating together once it is safe to do so!
In the meantime, we welcome you to explore the first of several trails we plan to build. The freshly-groomed Red Oak Trail extends for about 0.75 miles past vernal pools, streams, and woodlands. It makes for a great place to walk or snowshoe, and is relatively flat and manageable for hikers of all ages and ability levels. In the Spring of 2021, we plan to expand the trail system by two miles.
We held our first public program at Fuller Forest in December, welcoming 10 members of the community for a socially-distanced walk that explored how plants and animals adapt to life during the winter. We look forward to continuing to host public programming at Fuller Forest, and encourage you to keep an eye on our program announcements to learn of upcoming opportunities to get out on the land with us!
We’re so pleased to welcome you to Fuller Forest Preserve and we hope that you’ll enjoy your time there. Find a trail map, directions, and more information here.
