Naturalist Adventure Series: Guided Hike “Habitats and Wildlife of the York River”

Join Maine Master Naturalist Paul Dest as part of our Naturalist Adventure Series. Paul will lead a guided hike of our Smelt Brook Preserve to learn about the York River and its wetlands and wildlife, and about the more than decade-long effort to designate it into the National Park Service’s Partnership Wild and Scenic Rivers Program.

Get to know your Naturalist: Paul Dest is the Executive Director of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve and has been active in land conservation for over 30 years. He is one of the founders of the Mount Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative and the York River Wild and Scenic initiative. He has served on the boards and commissions of several local, state and national conservation organizations, and is currently a member of the York River Stewardship Committee. Paul leads occasional walks on protected places in southern Maine. He is a 2022 graduate of the Maine Master Naturalist Program.
