The forests, fields, farms, ponds, and rivers of our community are more than scenic vistas and exemplary recreational sites. The greater York/Mount Agamenticus region comprises a vital ecological system that not only ensures water quality for surrounding communities but provides the habitat for the greatest diversity of plants and wildlife found in the state of Maine.

For more than 25 years now, the York Land Trust (YLT) has worked to protect these precious resources. Through the Mt. Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative (MtA2C), YLT has helped to conserve more than 13,200 acres of land within the 48,000-acre area that comprises Kittery, York, Eliot, the Berwicks and Wells. (View the MtA2C Project Area Map.)

YLT stewards more than 2,100 acres of treasured, community lands, including Public Access Preserves, Limited Access Preserves, and Conservation Easements on privately owned lands.
