After more than 23 wonderful years at York Land Trust, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as Executive Director and hand the reins to a new leader.
It’s been my privilege and honor to lead York Land Trust all these years and be part of a dedicated group of conservationists that have permanently protected some of our area’s most beautiful and beloved landscapes. I’m proud of our accomplishments and of the very special organization we have built together that is strong and well-positioned for continued success. I have full confidence in our team of board members, staff, partners, supporters and volunteers to continue to do impactful work that will have lasting benefits for our community, for wildlife and for the climate.
While it is not easy to leave, the time feels right for a change. I have been afforded the opportunity to begin work in September with Jerry Bley, founder and owner of Creative Conservation, LLC who works with private landowners, non-profit organizations, and government agencies across Maine on ambitious land conservation initiatives. I will be working from my home office in York.
Our Board is forming a search committee to find a new Executive Director. If you know of someone who might be a good candidate, please send them our way. I will be here at YLT until August to help ensure a smooth transition and orientation for my successor. I will also be working beyond that to complete any land conservation projects that are still underway.
It has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me to work alongside and learn from all of you. Your support, friendship, encouragement and unflagging dedication to YLT have been gifts for which I will forever be grateful. Thank you!
Your partner in conservation,
Doreen MacGillis
Executive Director
