Join us on Sunday, October 22nd at 3pm for the Grand Opening of York Land Trust’s newest Public Access Preserve, Lafcadio’s Woods.
The property was very generously donated by Emily Fuller Hawkins, Martha Fuller Clark, and Henry W. Fuller in honor of their sister Alexandra Fuller Cortesi Anderson’s son, Lafcadio Cortesi. Lafcadio was a highly ambitious and visionary conservationist and community organizer who spent his career working to protect forests around the world, including in Canada, Indonesia, and elsewhere in the Pacific. While he passed far too soon at far too young, his positive impact was far-reaching and something to aspire to. The Fuller Family carries a strong legacy of conservation that spans generations, starting with Lafcadio’s grandparents, Marion Fuller Brown and Henry M. Fuller.
Lafcadio’s Woods Preserve is a 35-acre forested parcel that features a 1.3 mile figure-eight loop trail that spans diverse topography, ranging from shrubby wetlands to the south to steep rocky outcroppings to the north. The Preserve will be open to hikers, mountain bikers, pets on leash, and nature enthusiasts.
Attend the Grand Opening and hear a special tribute from Lafcadio’s family members as part of the dedication and enjoy a guided hike along the trails by York Land Trust’s stewardship team.
Many thanks to our Stewardship Volunteers who have been clearing trails and building bog-bridging to prepare this Preserve for the public!
