We’ve Moved to New, Permanent Headquarters

January 3, 2017

We are thrilled to announce that on December 13, 2016, YLT moved to a new permanent home at 1 Long Neck Marsh Road in York. After years of searching, the land trust purchased an outstanding property abutting our 300-acre Smelt Brook Preserve.

The new property is everything we were looking for in a new headquarters. The building is a beautiful historic replica, cape-style house built in 2009 that sits on a 3-acre parcel of land on Smelt Brook, a major tributary of the York River. The spacious house will allow YLT to evolve in the coming years and grow more fully into our mission, with space that can be used for educational programs for the public and school children, meetings, events, and retreats, in addition to offices for staff. And, its setting, at the edge of a large, conserved meadow opens the possibility for YLT to lease the field and establish active agriculture and a working educational farm.

YLT is still raising funds to complete the project which includes the purchase of a seven-acre abutting lot that connects the new home to miles of trails on YLT’s Smelt Brook Preserve. Additional funds will also make it possible to improve the trails for public access, build a parking area and make the building handicapped accessible.

Thanks to a generous bequest from Wendy Lynne Klodt and generous donations from many other individuals, we have realized a long-time dream of a permanent home that will advance YLT’s work in new and exciting ways that will benefit the community.
